Firstly, thank you to Melanie Belmonte, the Femme Filmmakers Festival Delegate, who was a huge part of selecting these films. And boy, was it tough. Finding just 20 short films for the official selection from countless, excellent films was tricky business.

So, as well as those 20 shorts, speed across the 10 days of the online festival, are 23 feature films and a bunch of out of competition shorts. Our plan is, of course, to showcase all of these films – be it with streaming info, reviews, interviews, podcast appearances and discussions, extensive promotional activities etc.

Take at look at what’s on offer, and make sure your diary is clear from 20th to 29th September.

Take at look at what’s on offer from 20th to 29th September.

The 4th annual online event will be the host to 58 films – 35 shorts, 23 features – all directed by women. Come join us all in celebrating the varied creativity and artistry of these talented female film-makers. Our coverage over the 10 days spans all 58 films, many of which you can stream yourselves. There is no fixed screening location – this is an online event – so check your internet connections and clear your diary. No excuses.

Filmm Freeway | Femme Filmmakers Festival

Melanie Belmonte, Member of the International Femme Filmmakers Festival Organizing Committee 2019.

The Femme Filmmakers Festival was conceived out of sheer human nature. Or at least, the kind of passion for a greater awareness of the female filmmakers that also reside on this planet. As Filmotomy has always striven to shine lights on the corners of the film world that simply don’t get the attention like the bigger guns do, setting up an exclusive event to celebrate these women and their movies seemed inevitable.

The festival itself, now in its fourth year, is an online event. One where a curated selection of films is given a platform for not just the filmmakers themselves, but also audiences who perhaps don’t know how to watch these films, or have not even heard of them at all. The awareness is key. It’s actually quite alarming how many films people have not seen or even knew existed.
